Approaching Christmas 2021

Last Christmas was unlike any in our lifetimes, with most celebrations shut down, postponed, or observed in isolation because of the COVID pandemic. This year we are on the cusp of a holiday season that looks more like the “before” times: Shoppers are back in stores, kitchens gearing up for cooking and baking, plans are being made for gatherings of loved ones. Yet, for so many the holidays this year will be painful without the loved ones COVID has taken. Susan Hillis, lead author of a study published in the journal Pediatrics, estimates that roughly 175,000 American children have lost a mother, father or grandparent-caregiver to COVID.

For every purchase made this month, we are donating copies of The Angels on My Tree to public libraries, schools and funeral homes across America in areas hardest hit by COVID. Books are on their way to Sheboygan, Watts, Columbus, Queens, Gallup, Metairie, Jewell, Amarillo, Wichita ...

We hope that this story will bring some hope and healing to children, families and communities devastated by loss.

May we all spread kindness, and may some of the joy we share stay with us. We hope that each of you will be blessed with kindness and joy this holiday season and in the year ahead. — Lu Ann and Eve

It’s been quite a while since we have posted news here. But we’ve been keeping busy. We’ve been working on a few projects related to The Angels on My Tree that we’re very excited about; we hope we’ll be able to trumpet about them soon! Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic has starkly reminded us of the tremendous need for families to find paths of hope and healing, to create new and more meaningful traditions, and to connect to one another in kindness.

Please follow along at Facebook or Instagram to see what we've been working on.

We’ve missed you too,

Lu Ann and Eve

PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES

WORDS AND PICTURES      In this fun and interactive educational program, Kaldor and Gendron take an offbeat look at how the words and pictures are developed and how they support the story's ideas, and each other, in the creation of a book – with some hilarious twists along the way! Gives children new insights into the creative process behind the books they read, and promises to engage them in reading in a whole new way.

ACTS OF KINDNESS – (Angels in Action)      Children are encouraged to participate in acts of Christmas kindness in conjunction with the book The Angels on My Tree. Each child will share ideas and create and decorate an angel signifying their good deed. This program opens the way for the entire school, library, or church community to continue to participate long after the event!

HOPE AND HEALING      One in seven children lose a parent or sibling before reaching adulthood. The Angels on My Tree acknowledges their loss, and provides families a means for finding healing by reaching out to others with acts of help and kindness. In a time when children feel particularly alone, vulnerable, and powerless, this program strengthens and empowers them by giving them the means to impact their world, one tiny good deed at a time.

Thanks for such a wonderful program. Lu Ann and Eve did a phenomenal job! I believe every library should have their books which are lovely and smart... I strongly recommend this program.”
